Bagel Recipe
Did you know that you don’t have to go to your local bakery to have freshly made bagels? You can, in fact, make your own freshly made bagels right home in your very kitchen. All you need is a few key ingredients and best of all it won’t blow your budget!

Bagel Dough
The first thing you’ll need to make is bagel dough. You’ll only need 5 ingredients and they are:
➔ Warm water
➔ Yeast (This will allow the dough to rise)
➔ Bread flour (using bread flour gives bagels their chewy taste)
➔ Brown sugar or maple syrup to sweeten the bagel dough
➔ Salt (for added flavor)

Toppings (optional)
➔ Poppy seeds

➔ Sesame seeds

Prepare The Dough
In a bowl combine water, yeast, flour, sugar and salt and mix them together. You can mix them by hand with an electric mixer at a slow speed. Once the dough is formed, let it sit for 60-90 minutes to allow it to rise.
After the dough has risen, push the dough down, and divide it into a few sections. The sections should be in a sausage shape, about 6 inches long. Form a circle and be sure to leave a hole in the middle that is 2 fingers wide.

How to Boil and Bake Your Bagels
I bet that you didn’t know that before bagels are not only baked, they are also boiled? Here’s why: Boiling them is what allows them to keep their shape for when they will eventually bake in the oven.  You can also mix the water with maple syrup, salt and baking soda to give them a shiny golden-brown color. Place only 2-3 bagels at a time in the pot to give them plenty of room to float around. Be sure to boil them for 1 minute per side. Once they rise to the top, this is when they will be ready to place in the oven.

Place your bagels on a baking sheet and pre-heat the oven to 475 degrees F (245 degrees C)
While the oven is preheating, place your favorite toppings on one side of the bagel. Then let them bake for 15- 20 minutes or until they are golden brown. Be sure to rotate them at around the 7- or 10-minute mark.

Tip: The best time to eat bagels is the same that you bake them. If you don’t think that you can eat them all in one day, place them in a freezer bag. They can be stored in the freezer for up to one month.

Other ways to enjoy bagels
Bagels don’t just have to be enjoyed at breakfast with simple bread and butter. Here are some other ways to enjoy bagels, at any time of day:

Cream Cheese, Tomato, Red Onion, and Avocado Bagel
Spread 1 tablespoon of cream cheese over one side of your bagel. Top each half with 1 tomato slice, half the onion slice, and half of the avocado slices. Sprinkle pepper for taste.

Scrambled Egg and Cheese Bagel
Place 1 cheddar cheese slice on both sliced halves of the bagel.  In a bowl, combine 1 egg, salt, and pepper and stir. Melt butter in a small non-stick skillet over medium heat. Add the egg mixture to the skillet. Cook until the mixture sets to the bottom of the pan. With a spatula mix up eggs until they form small chunks. Take half the mixture and spread it over one side of the bagel, do the same for the second half.

Pizza Bagel
Instead of ordering in for pizza night, why not enjoy a pizza bagel? Here’s what you’ll need: Spread 2 tablespoons of pizza sauce in an even layer on each half of the bagel. Next, sprinkle shredded mozzarella and pepperoni. Place the bagels on a baking sheet and then in the oven until the cheese has melted or for 8 minutes.
